Student Opportunities

There are many opportunities for students to participate in Society and STAC activities.  Each Board and Committee has at least one student member.  Symposiums and Conferences sponsored by the Boards and Committees frequently sponsor best paper awards and in some instances provide students with some funding to attend professional meetings.  In addition, the Society provides student travel grants to meeting.  This site is intended to inform student of these opportunities.

STAC Board and Committee Membership

Students interested in servicing on a STAC Board or Committee should contact the Board or Committee of their preference and express your interest.  Student members perform a number of different functions depending upon the Board or Committee.  Some students serve as the web focal point, updating the site as necessary.  Others assist in organizing and staffing specialty meetings. Still others are involved in outreach activities.

Best Paper Awards

Most Board and  Committees offer best paper awards at professional meetings.  Students should conference and symposium call for papers  to learn more.

Travel Assistance

Some Boards and Committees offer limited travel assistance to conferences and symposiums.  These opportunities are announced through the call for papers.

AMS Meeting Student Travel Grants

Travel grants are available for senior undergraduate and graduate students to attend AMS meetings held in the U.S. or Canada. AMS recognizes the considerable benefit that students can gain from attending conferences even if they are not presenting a paper there.  AMS wants to encourage interactions between students and other conference attendees. To this end, travel grants will be awarded to students who are not presenting a paper at the conference.  Presenting at the AMS Annual Meeting Student Conference does not fall under this rule.  Information and Application
