Manuscript Submission Item Type Definitions

When uploading submission files to Editorial Manager, authors are required to select the appropriate item type for each file on the Attach Files page.  If the correct item type is not selected then the submission will be returned to the author for correction.  Please use the item type definitions on this page to select the correct item type.

Cover Letter

This file should include all comments intended only for the editor.  This item type will not be accessible to reviewers.

Cost Estimation and Agreement Worksheet (For Journals)

This item type is for the required estimation form that must be included with every Journal manuscript at initial submission.  Note that the full image of this file will not display in the built PDF.  There will be a separate page with a link to this file in the upper left corner.  This is how this item is intended to appear.

Manuscript (non-LaTeX)

For all manuscript files that are in Word, PDF, or another non-LaTeX format.  This should include the main body of the manuscript and can also be used to designate tables and/or captioned figures for peer review if these items are not embedded within a single file.

LaTeX (.tex, .sty., cls., bst., bib.)

All LaTeX files should be designated with this item type.

Rendered Figure

This item type is for individual figure source files for peer review and production.  LaTeX authors must use this designation for their LaTeX files to compile correctly.  Files with this designation should follow the acceptable figure file guidelines.  If you have captioned your figure source files please select this item type for each figure file.

If you have already included the captioned figures for peer review as a Manuscript (non-LaTeX) file (i.e. embedded them within the Word file or uploaded a single PDF containing all of the captioned figures) please use the item type Non-Rendered Figure for the individual figure source files for production.  The figures should not display twice in the built PDF.

Non-Rendered Figure

Use this item type for individual figure source files for production when the captioned figures for peer review have already been included as a manuscript file.  Files with this designation will not display in the built PDF but instead will only show as a link in the upper left corner of a separate page.  This is how this item is supposed to appear.

Response to Reviewers

This item is required for all revisions and resubmissions.  It should include a detailed response to the reviews. This will be included in the rendered pdf for reviewers.
