About

Leaders in congress and the executive branch face critical choices about the Earth system: how to prepare for and respond to disasters, what resources are needed to predict and manage extreme weather events, how to effectively manage the risks of climate change, and how to enhance our international competitiveness through research.

These policy choices can only be resolved effectively if they incorporate the insights and expertise of the scientific community.

The AMS is widely recognized as a credible source of policy-relevant information. We provide unbiased information and analysis and engage all sides, irrespective of political viewpoint. We provide policy-makers with access to the best available knowledge and understanding when they need it most.

Our Capitol Hill Briefings make it possible for policy-makers to hear directly from leading scientists from the weather, water, and climate community. As a result, the series helps policy-makers recognize and manage Earth system risks and take advantage of emerging opportunities our science makes possible.
